P.T.F.E. (Polytetrafluroethylene), an insert, non-toxic material is well known for its properties such as virtual immunity to chemical or solvent attack. Therefore, it is the best-suited material for bushes, seals etc. for revolving shaft applications under the most corrosive acid, alkali or solvent service conditions.

Some of the other important properties are:

A. Chemical Resistance:

1. P.T.F.E. is not affected by any known solvents.

2. Water absorption in Nil

3. No common acid or base is absorbed by P.T.F.E. at temperature upto 250oC (480oF)

4. Non-toxic, non ageing, non wet, light and stable and Hygienically clean.

B. Electrical Properties:

1. Hi dielectric strength

2. Low dielectric constant – P.T.F.E. does not alter with frequently or temperature.

3. Heat resistant – No risk of insulation failure due to moisture

C. Thermal Properties:

1. Wide temperature range: -80oC to 250oC

2. Unaffected by weathering.

3. Does not burn or smoke

4. Enable deep freezing

5. Not affected by ultraviolet rays

D. Mechanical Resistance:

1. Excellent abrasion resistance

2. Low coefficient of friction (0.05-0.08)

3. Self lubrication. Specific gravity – 2.14 to 2.20

4. Excellent machinability to close tolerances

5. Tough and flexible even at low temperature

6. P.T.F.E can be machined easily by means of normal matching operations such as turning, milling and drilling etc.
